People come to therapy for all different reasons, but ultimately change is at the core of all treatment. The first step in the change process is working with a mental health provider with whom you feel comfortable, and that you have confidence in his or her clinical abilities. Whether you work with me or enter treatment with a different provider, make sure that you are satisfied with your mental health clinician. If you do not experience a therapeutic connection, it is likely that progress in treatment will be limited. Remember as a mental health consumer, you have the option of choosing a clinician with whom you feel comfortable. Once you build a solid therapeutic relationship, the real treatment can begin.
